Vision:

The vision of the Kanter Kallman Foundation is to support a lifelong passion for the arts.

Mission:

The Kanter Kallman Foundation cultivates the next generation of artists and audiences through outreach, increasing exposure and accessibility to the arts, and supporting artists (including musicians, writers, and visual artists) through schools, museums, and other nonprofit organizations.

History

The Kanter Kallman Foundation was established in 1956 in New York following France Neckwear’s invention of the necktie knot-forming device. With a shared passion for the arts, Harry Kanter and Robert Kallman founded the non-profit organization. In its early years, the foundation primarily provided funding to music schools in New York City, helping to nurture the next generation of musicians.

The foundation’s original board included Rose Plaut, David Noakes, Peter Bullough, and an additional member whose name is not recorded. Over the years, leadership evolved, with Michael Kanter serving as president, followed by Ginnie Maes, who led from 1995 to 2021. In 2021, Jason Moran took on the role of president, continuing the foundation’s mission to support the arts.

Today, the Kanter Kallman Foundation remains dedicated to its founding vision, championing the arts and supporting musicians in their creative endeavors.
